When I saw the first drawings of this cake in Janusz’s shop, I was speechless. Janusz explained his ideas to me, he was so excited about his plans for this cake. He was pointing out with his fingers the things he was talking about on the piece of paper in front of him. Then he started drawing the project with his hands up in the air, above his workstation, getting even more excited. After this experience I wanted to be a part of this cake project and tell the story of the making of this cake with my camera. The next 2 weeks I spent long nights with Janusz in his kitchen working on the industrial wedding cake.
It took almost two weeks to build this cake. On the day of the wedding it took 4 people 2 hours to set it up at the reception venue. After the cake was done I asked Janusz if he would do this again. He started laughing at me: “No, this was a unique project”! – But then he slowly opened up one of the drawers in front of him, pulled out some drawings … and there was the excitement in his eyes again for a new cake project. Can’t wait to photograph this one!
